Tanayans are aware that a typhoon will hit Metro Manila-- Signal no.1. It's on the news. So everyone here was expecting to experience the same. What we did not know.. the least thing that we expect to happen.. was on it's way to us that day between 9am-12 nn.
Then the worst thing happens..
I just opened my computer in my office and checked out my files.. The electricity went down 3 times.. and remained down on the 3rd. I stayed beside my glass door to see what is happening outside.. It's raining.. I was texting my friends to come over to my office to have lunch with me.. (still not aware of what to happen).
Then suddenly.. i saw the water came.. entering my office door.. rising.. I was in shock. My dad was beside me that time. He just arrived. Blocking our office with his SUV to lessen the pressure of the water. Still rising.. from the floor.. to my ankle..
I was starting to pack my things in the office. The moment i saw the water i was really shouting..calling my mom to help me. I have to pack everything by myself.. The computer.. the files- i was talking of 6 traveling bags of files here.. books.. magazines..everything.. the water level was on my knee that time.
When the water reached my legs.. I was in shock.. again.. My door give up.. The glass door was about to break (thank God the water just moved the braces and the glass did not break at all).. I don't know how i managed to hold them until my dad came.. But i am sure of one thing.. My body hurts after that scene. It was only me and my dad at that time. So that means.. i am the only one that can help him carry everything.. including the casket in our office.. yeah.. that strong.. with the help of what you call..adrenalin.
I packed everything..put it on my table (which at that time is ready to float) and wait for some help.. Lucky was still saving some items on our shop- motorcycle parts.. I waited for him.. He put the bags upstairs..
Hours passed by that we are fighting against the water..it's not easy.. watching how the water destroy a lot of things and interrupting the signal of our communications.. People crossing the water.. going straight to the church and a safe place for some shelter.. Still the water reached my dad's waist.
This is it.. The scene was really stuck in to this. I am worried that it might go higher than what i am seeing since my uncle just texted me that in Pililla.. the water reached their chest.. and worst some part was even above the head.. that is why they can't go out the church where they are stranded.
But by God's helping hand.. the water stayed that way..slowly moving down..and down.. until all that is left was knee level. and a lot of MUD.
After hours of a very shocking moment.. We went to the Market to check Lucky's house (which to our dismay the tv, refrigerator, our motorcyle..files.. and things on the floor was facing down..all soaked in MUD).
We've been hearing that a building collapse in the Plaza.. and when we saw it.. Oh my. This is really happening. And again..the worst part is soon to be seen.. Business section on our way to the market was gone.. I mean..some..but they are all affected. Flooded.. Destroyed.. Gone..
Banks go offline..
Soldiers are everywhere..
Rescue teams are ready..
The first time i saw Tanay under a state of calamity..
And as you go around the town..to the highway.. Many of our fellow Tanayans (in BAtac) lost their things..their home..their LOVED ONES.
Typhoon Ondoy will really leave a mark here in Tanay. And will remain a history on how it will change our lives seeing how devastated Tanay had been most especially our nearby town here in Rizal. (Marikina, Cainta, Pasig, Taytay etc) Which i heard was far more devastated than what we've seen here in our town.
